Langtang trek in Nepal - The Langtang valley is aptly called ‘the valley of glaciers’. Here, mountain rise, soaring towards the sky. The valley offers pine forest, swift mountain streams, rugged rock and snowcapped peaks, grassy downs and meadows strewn with daisies and wild primal. A variety of sights including Buddhist monasteries, a cheese factory, yaks, glaciers and mountain lakes make this trek an exciting one. You will visit Gosainkunda, one of the holiest lake in Nepal, where thousands of pilgrims throng each August to bathe in its cold and spiritually refreshing water. One hour drive brings the trekkers to Sundarijal, the starting point of this trek, where there are sparkling waterfalls flowing down through an oak forest. This trek offers the experience of being in a typical Sherpa village and many ancient monasteries. It is a golden chance to learn about life in our villages. The trek ends at Melamchipul Bazar on the banks of Indravati River. North of Kathmandu valley lies Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung. Nestled at the foot of these Himalayan ranges is a beautiful, secluded, valley filled with natures bounty - the Langtang National Park. Here the rare red pandas lurk in dense lichen-draped rhododendron thickets, heards of blue sheep graze the alpine meadows and lammergeiers glide over glaciated valleys amidst a scenery of lofty Himalayan peaks. From Kyanjin Gompa we will have a chance to climb a ridge on Yala Peak, or hike to the foot of Langshisa glacier, for an incredible view of glaciers, icefalls and snow fields surrounded on all sides by high mountains. The Helambu villages, over the holy Gosainkunda lakes and Laurebenayak pass, are the home of the Sherpas of Nepal.. Their slate and single-roofed villages, that dot the terraced hillsides, present very fine trekking. The region of Langtang and Helambu although easily approached from Kathmandu is far less trekked than the Annapurna or Everest areas making it all the more attractive. A wonderful walk through a naturalist's trail. Moderate to difficult Helambu-Langtang trek between 2000m (6,500ft) and 4,380m (14,366ft) with one pass crossing of 4,610m (15,120ft) and optional hiking to 5,100m (16,700ft) on Yala Peak. Accommodation in comfortable lodges run by local families. The trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu and includes all meals, services of experienced trek guide and porters to carry luggage. Clients carry a light day-pack only .

Day 01:Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (1966m.): It takes about eight hours. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Dhunche. The first part of your drive upto Trishuli Bazaar is quite smooth. The path now moves along the gravel road. During the rainy season, the path is sometime blocked due to landslides. Your drive from Kathamandu to the destination is to be made by either local bus or land cruiser.

Day 02: Trek from Dhunche to Syabru Gaon (2581m.): It takes about five and half hours. Trek to Syabru Gaon (6950ft, 2120m). The trekking today is very leisurely through forests and terraced hill slopes. As you enter Syabru, you descend to the ridgeline that separates the Langtang Khola from the Trisuli River. Syabru is a beautiful village stretched out along the ridgeline. You will continue through the village to your campsite about fifteen minutes beyond on the slopes below the village. The sunset is magnificent; brilliantly backlighting the houses perched on the ridgeline above. From here you can enjoy spectacular view of Lantang Lirung (7245m.) and Tibetan Himal ranges.
Day 03: Trek from Syabru Gaon to Lama Hotel (2470m.): It takes about five hours. The trail descends along the ridge on Syabru's main street and then drop to the Ghopche Khola (2050 m.) and again descends to the Landslide (1810m.). Afterwards, you trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) and at the end your trail is level to the Lama Hotel. En route you could see red pandas, wild monkeys and bear if you are lucky.

Day 04: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3430m.): It takes about six hours. As you continue climbing there are occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. At Ghora Tabela (3000m), the trail emerges from the forest. While walking here, you can catch a glimpse of white monkeys and local birds. Once there was a Tibetan resettlement project here, but now it is a Nepalese army post though it has no permanent inhabitants. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months. There is a monastery which we can visit shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang, the headquarters of the Langtang National Park. The houses of Langtang and its neighboring villages are of the flat-roofed Tibetan style, surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields of buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley.

Day 05: Trek from Langtang Village to Kyangjin Gumba(3870m.): It takes about three hours. The trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures as the valley opens out further and the views become more extensive. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin. There is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory. You will arrive at Kyangjin by lunch time allowing time to acclimatize and explore the area. It is a dramatic setting, with snow covered peaks surrounding us in all directions. At this point, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Dorje Lakpa (6990m.), Langtang Ri (6370m.) and Langtang Lirung (7245m.). Day 08 : Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa and excursion around:
This is day to rest and explore the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m], directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks

Day 06: Trek from Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel: It takes about six hours. From Kyangjin you retrace your route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch you continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.

Day 07rek from Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi: It takes about five hours. The upper part of the trail is more beautiful for the panoramic view of mountains and green hill views. This path is broader and remains sunny through the different Shepra and Tamang villages. The first half part of the trail is gradually down and then the trail does steeply descent to the Syabru Besi (1600m.). There was run a project called Chilime Power Plant .

Day 08 Drive from Syabru Besi to Kathmandu by bus. It takes about nine hours.

Helambu trekking in Nepal, about  72 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu, is noted for its scenic grandeur and  pleasant climate. The Helambu region, extending from north of Taramarang to the  tree limit of the Gosainkunda Lake and lower slopes of Jugal Himal, has several  highland Tamang and Sherpa villages, scattered on both sides of the Malemchi  Khola. This trek is rated as an easier trek because the elevations are  lower, ranging between 800m. and 3600m., which indicates less climbing and  warmer temperatures. One advantage to this trek is there are fewer trekkers here  than on the Annapurna trek and some parts of the Everest treks, but there is  still a wide range of cultures and spectacular  scenery.

Tamang Hertage trekking in Nepal

Duration: 14 days
 Activities: Cultural tour/  Trekking
Minimum altitude: 1400m
Maximum altitude: 4600m

This is a superb introduction to trekking in Nepal among some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country, with rich tamang culture.
Many years ago Nepal, fought with Tibet for salt and some of the biggest areas where this war took place is in the Langtang Region of Nepal, wherein lies the third most popular trekking trail in Nepal. This area is connected to Tibet and the trails in this region were used by traders from Tibet bartering in Salt and mountain goats for meat (changra) with foodstuffs from the south.
Developed by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program, the "Tamang Heritage Trail" is the newly developed tourism product, off the beaten track, which highlights an ancient lifestyle combining it with picturesque scenery and healing baths in natural hot springs.
The people of this region are mostly Tibetans who came from Kerung in Tibet across the border and settled in Nepal. In earlier days, the citizenship of Nepal would not be offered to real Tibetans, so they changed their ethnicity to Tamang, which is what they still write till date. The cultural and traditions of these people are similar to the Tibetan across the border.
This trekking destination is just a day long bus journey from the capital, Kathmandu. The 13-day trekking tour provides varieties of experience. Tamang rituals, Tibetan culture, festivals, traditional architecture, costumes, local Syabru dances make the exposure to this culture very unique. There is a view point at Goljung Pass, from where views of Langtang and Kerung (Tibet) can be awe inspiring. Visitors will get an opportunity to observe Syabru, Mane and other local dances at Goljung and Gatlang VDCs. The villages also sell exclusive handicraft items like traditional caps, mufflers and other items.
Tourists can enjoy hot bath in the healing hot-water spring at Tatopani before reaching Nagthali, where the stay is a unique experience. The ancient monasteries and houses adorned with rich wood engravings at Thuman is an unforgettable experience.
At Briddim one gets to experience the famous Tamang hospitality, where there is home stay facility in 24 houses. After the Tamang heritage trail we will head towards the Langtang.Langtang is a narrow valley situated 75 kms north of Kathmandu close to the Tibetan border.Last but not the least combining the Tamang heritage trails with the Langtang would be one of the best trails in Nepal like the Annapurna circuit or the Everest Base Camp.
